YES! my friend's 848 is a biotch...he's made 6 freakin payments on that thing and had it back to the shop 3 times...once for the 700 miles break in ($500) and another for the 2000 mile break in ($700) and a 3rd for a new chain that wasn't covered under warantee ($400)...not to mention it's depreciated just as quicly as any other bike.

SCREW IT! I'll let him make the payments and I'll ride it whenever I feel the urge.

I hate to say it, but all these fully faired sportbikes look alike to me, I guess some are somewhat better looking than others, but if they were all painted white without any graphics I couldn't the difference.

You're just buying the name..

I dont think I'll ever care to own a Ducati unless of course... I hit the lottery. Otherwise I will stick with the faithful names like Honda & Kawasaki

The newer duc's require half the maintenance. That was a big downfall of the Duc, but kinda like moaning about maintenance on a High-end sports cars, if you can afford the bike, then you can afford the work on it. Thats what my dealer says. They deal in Ducatti and say the maintenance issue kept many away. I can appreciate Ducattis, they are a fine fine machine, I don't think their fit and finish, detail can be matched, but, thats what your paying for, a fine italian bike. I'm going to be getting another bike within the next year, and trying to decide on either a Harley or a Ducatti. I'm keeping my other bikes also so don't worry.

OMG, did I hear that right ..you are deciding between a Harley or a Ducati?? ..lol

Anyway I think you nailed the issue here, if you can afford the bike ..its like who buys a Ferrari and whinges about the running costs ... ok bikes are cheaper but you know what I mean, I just think its hard to beat a 600 for eveyday and Ducati for *that* special day :-)

The thing that stoppede me was the rape they call insurance. To get full coverage on the 848 or 1098 here would have been over 200 a month, I pay 31 a month for the max full coverage on a brand new 1000RR.

Yes, we have similar insurance issues here ..you can afford the bike/car but not the insurance ..my last bike premium with Bennets insurance was £89 for the year on a 600F3 ..I dont know what it will be now since the car I hit claimed off me, first accident in 17 years of riding ..hope they dont cripple me!![]

Whaaaaa!!!!! Maybe cause of the theft factor? I know San Antone is high on theft but geez. First off, insurance is a black art that will never be understood, at least by me. Second, I've seen several guys buy Ducs because they couldn't afford insurance on an F4i or a 600rr. By several I mean three guys at my last command, they had thier own little ducatti click which was gay but that another story. Anyways, one of them, a good friend in my shop, was all set to but a really nice 600rr, but the insurance was going to kill him, so he saw a 900SS ducatti and got it after he got quoted a 3rd of the insurance price as that 6oorr. Maybe the insurance companies think that ducattis are upper crust, kept in a garage, only ridden on nice days, therefore lower risk, I dunno, but this guy I mention, maybe put 500 mi on it in two years, sat on his back patio or in my garage the rest of the time.
