Default maintinence ona a Duc

ok i notice everyone in here.............almost EVERYONE in here dreams or wishes they had a Ducati 1098 (count through the wish list thread by Einzcane). my question is..............................isnt the maintinence on them absolutely rediculous and you have to do it like every 2000 miles or something like that? i think they're gorgeous bikes but theres no way in hell i want to spend most of my time maintinencing my bike then riding it, especially for the money i'd throw down for a 1098! i do like 2k + miles a month so i'd be broke as hell if i took it somewhere and if i did it myself i'd have no life!

im happy dreaming about the next 1k or 600 RR

1098 maint. isn't anything like the older Ducs. I was going to buy one but once I got on the new 1KRR I just couldn't justify the extra cost. I had paperwork started for an 848 and walked away and I was paying cash.

I am in Honda mode right now, that may change when this bike hits 2 years old and I buy a new one.

I love the look but I dont want or need the maintenance ... I feel the japs are a tough act to follow in terms of reliability and abuse of maintenance ... 600RR does it for me :-)

that seems more like a review of all sport bikes in a sense, none of our bikes (especially the RRs) are purpose built road going machines. It didn't really touch on long term reliability.

from my 2 cents, i heard a dry clutch on a Ducati the other day (a touring model though, not a monster or a 1098,998,919...) and it sounded AWFUL, like it was shaking the bike apart, if i picked up my Honda and it made that noise i wouldnt have bought it. made me want to vomit, i had never heard it before but people told me it was normal. I geuss i had never stood close to a ducati while it was running or mabey the pipes masked the clutch sound (a guy who comes to bike night has a monster and a 1098, they both have termigoli exhaust)

I still love the way Ducati's look, my friend has an old 919 (1996 i think) and it is beautiful, so ahead of its time, but he says its a costly beast to keep running and if you wreck parts are pricy.
