Well Piglet is back home.... resting peacefully on the couch right now. No complications or anything there, she's just really groggy from the drugs. Didn't get the greatest news on the hip.... it is indeed hip dysplasia They showed me the x-rays and her left hip does indeed look out of whack. Right one was perfectly fine though, which is good. They said it was only moderate, so gave me some Glycoflex tablets to give her everyday to help her out. Gonna do that for awhile and see how it works, and if it doesn't improve or it gets worse, we'll have to look into surgery [&:]

Other than that, she's doing just fine! Sporting the lampshade and a nice big bald spot on her belly and front leg

She passed out as soon as we got home

It's good the hip thing isn't too major. I rescued a small 4 week old dog who couldn't walk until she was 10 weeks old. I had her about two years and then she was stolen, sadly. I really loved Moose.

I know what it's like to have to really care for a dog and it only hurts that much more when they're gone. =/

I'm sure she'll be fine.

Poor baby, sorry to hear about the hip problem, but its very common in a lot of dogs, ask your vet if there are any dog physio's in your area, or contact a breeders group (for dogs like German Shepherds) & they may be able to guide you through it.
Don't they make you feel guilty with that 'And wot the f**k did I do to deserve this' look. Keep your eye on her to, my dog was a bit off for about 24 hours & she threw up some gunk for a while after.

ORIGINAL: compulady5

hahahaah love the lampshade!

I'm sorry to hear about her hip- I can't believe it's moderate and she's only 1!! poor puppers... Does it seem like the tablets are helping her?

What is the surgery for hip dysplasia? Is it a hip replacement?

Yea there's a couple different surgeries..... one is where they just go in and kinda re-work the ball and socket and add some muscle tissue around it. She said that one was pretty common and usually went pretty well, but I don't believe that one worked if it got really bad prior. Then there's complete hip replacement, which has a 10-15% complication rate and is about $5000 per hip [:-]

Gonna start her on the Glucocemine tablets today and see how she does.... the drugs from yesterday wore off so she's wide awake now [8D]

My Rottie is on the same medication and has the same issue. The meds really seem to help her, especially in the morning.
