@$%*ing ticket!
i agree with TheX, getting a lawyer isn't always the right answer. most likely the lawyer won't really do much. i made the mistake of bringing a lawyer (who happened to be my dad's friend) to contest a ticket once. he just stood there, didn't say a word, and when it was all said and done i had to pay the ticket anyway. he then billed me like $200, and when i told him he didn't do anything, he claimed that he was only there to make sure my rights weren't being violated. needless to say my dad and this asswipe are no longer friends. just do some research, find examples of previous tickets that were dismissed, bring your notes, pictures, etc to court, and you should do fine. if the judge sees that you went out of your way to fight the ticket, he's likely to believe that you didn't intend to break the law (regardless of whether it was or wasn't a safe pass... sometimes it's the intent that matters more than the act itself). just present yourself well, do your research so you know what you're talking about, and the ticket should be dismissed. with your diagrams, get as detailed as possible. measure distances, calculate how long it would take you to cover those distances at the speed limit, and you should be able to prove that the pass was indeed "safe" if you can prove that you allowed yourself ample time to react if an oncomingcar were to suddenly appear. it's pretty likely that at least some of this would be overkill (the judge may not really give a damn about your diagrams or pictures, unfortunately) but it's better to be prepared than not. i would certainly contest it though, because a ticket on your record will affect your insurance rates too.
When you win in court you usually get 50% off the ticket...if you win. The price of your ticket isn't worth wasting time sitting in court waiting half a day and they miss you that day because of too many peeps you'll have to come back the next day.
I have a boy hood friend who became a cop. I still say screw all cops.
Time is precious to me and time is moeny to some of you's. I'd just pay it than rather sit 4 hours waiting for my turn under scrutiny. The judges can be A-holes too if they didn't get some the night before from their wife.
Cops n me are on a hate hate relation. Pay'm and say Fu**'m.

Contest both of them and don't pay anything till court. If you pay that other one it will look like you admit your at fault. Go to court and break a deal and maby the cop wont even show up. How can he prove you made a dangerous pass. I didn't even know it was illegal to pass.
You'll have to pay the one just because its the law to get it inspected, but as far as the other one talk to a prosecuter and see what they can do for you. Just make sure you're calm, look presentable, and if you have a clean record they may strike a deal or let it go.
Send in a Not guilty plea thru the mail for both tickets. Wait the month or two for them to send you your hearing date andthen possibly plea no contest to the inspection and not guilty to the passing one. THEN...you should have a chance to show you evedence that you weren't passing wrecklessly.
Dumb question...where you passing over doulble lines?
Dumb question...where you passing over doulble lines?
question....if you started passing during the dotted lines, dotted lines are a guideline as to when to PASS....thats when your supposed to do it....they wouldnt print dotted lines on the road for a blind corner up a hilll.....thats BS. take pictures of the area, you should be able to win that case on your own......
PS, where n Maine are you from? im from MAINE too.

Yes it was a dotted line, legal passing area.
I agree, if the cop has a problem with the passing lane, he needs to talk with the DOT, thats not my problem. I went and took pics today of where I passed...complete straightaway for for 150 yards or so. I guess I will contest both and prob plea no contest to the inspection, im stuck there.
Hayden-- I'm from Bar Harbor, about an hour south of Bangor, you?

BTW...this is a pic I took today of the stretch where I passed the two cars (there werent this many cars, of course):

I dont see any hill...and the corner is like 150 yards away

You know I think alot of people are still like me back before I REALLY knew what passing and no passing meant on the road.
I passed my permit and drivers test, got my license, read about the passing and no passing sign.
I never knew that passing means you can speed up and jump on the other -incoming- lane to pass cars though!!!
Not until I was in the USMC and a buddy of mine did it with his truck with me in it. I was like WTF you doing? Is that even legal?!
He said yep sure it is, you see that yellow dotted line, that means it's allowed.
I bet that cop probably don't know. I will bet that there are tons of drivers out on the road that doesn't know about it, even though they got their license.

yea u will win it totally as long as they didnt have to lock up their brakes when u went in front of them. which they didnt im sure. and you better bring in that pic. i contested an unsafe lane change and all the judge asked me was "did i signal"..yes "did their brakes lockup/or chirp" no ok then no fine and have a good day
