i got hit last night, up date pics
I will say this. I am an EMT and like one other guy said; If I crash into someone abiding the law, even on a code red full lights and siren call, it's my fault. It is the same for police too. Just because we have lights and a siren doesn't mean we can go and crash into anyone and not be placed at fault. It sounds like the police are being very thurough with the investigation, incidents involving emergency or police personel usually require one hell of a detailed writeup. I wouldn't be worried.
Also, they have very good insurance, don't worry about it. You'll be taken care of. It sounds like your bike will be totaled, but they should give you what it's worth. Glad to hear you're both ok.

i agree w/ most the guys here, if you got hit from behind, it's totally his fault. he obviously saw you if he had his lights on, but if he didn't what ddoes that matter? how the heck are you suppose to do something about this moron that didn't see you?
sounds like he's just embarrassed for making a mistake.... maybe he was turning on his lights/siren for something else and was preoccupied and didn't see you... in any case, you're not at fault at all and the city should reimburse and compensate you for everything. if they're giving you the run around or taking a long time to take care of you, you should definately get a lawyer... i don't think you'll have to pay out of pocket either, just a portion of your settlement.

i overheard an off duty moto cop in a mc shop the other day said the bmws are too expensive to maintain, so they will be getting the hondas... looks like itll be harder to out run them now... the harleys are awfuly slow, and even a weak turn scrapes thier pegs.
I've taken some law classes in college and this is what I remember about getting hit by a police officer:
The laws in the U.S. are derived from the British back in the 17th centruy. Back then, "The King can do no Wrong"... This is the same reason why a US senator or congressman can go out on the street, start shooting innocent people, and run into the senate / house of represenitives and not get arrested until session is over (yes that is true, you cannot get arresed while congress is in session, no matter what the crime).
For this same reason, police could never be found at fault if they cause an accident, especially with the sirens on and disco lights flashing.
This is changing howeveron a state to state basis. I believe that most states now consider this 300 year old law obselete...
if you live in NY, I think you're ok. If you lived in the south, might be a totally different story... at any rate, hire a lawyer...

I love these people that have, "taken a few law classes." You're a fool if you believe what you just typed. Furthermore, any professor that fed you this garbage is an even bigger fool.
Also, our constitution was written based on the ideals developed by philospophers. Ever heard the name Socrates? Plato, Aristotle?
Go back and take those law classes again, eitheryou or the professor wasted your money.

P.S. There isn't a, "law" in the US that is 300 years old. Furthermore, I'm not aware of any states that would have been around 300 years ago to endorse such nonsense.
It's amazing what people say sometimes.

P.P.S What laws did the US take from the Queen in the 1600's? I wasn't aware the States even existed until the late 18th century, though I've been wrong before
The more I read your post, the more dumbfounded I am...
