Default Hurricane Katrina

All fun aside. I'm in the military and had to deploy down to Mississippi and New Orleans to lend a helping hand. First let me say to the members of the forum in that area, that if they would have let me stay longer I would have stayed until it was all cleaned up. Second, those of you who are not from down there but watch the news....It's a lot worse than what you see on TV. New Orleans is like a ghost town right now and Biloxi looked 100 times worse than any war torn country I have been to. To give you an idea of how bad it is...There were some houses that were at least 100 years old and there is not one hair of evidence that they were ever there. Casinos that once floated in the water, now sit in the other side of US 90. Homes in New Orleans completey flooded to the roof and belongings washed away. I hope one day that it will all be put back together. I only say this because those of you who really like to ride....US 90 is a beautiful road to ride from Florida all the way across the Gulf Coast, with a lot of places to lose your money and have fun. Like our friends here, whom we are glad we didn't lose them when some idiot cut them off or ran them off the road and wrecked there bikes. Lets just keep those in mind in the south who will never ride with us again or lost not just their livelyhood but their lives in this devistation. Hate to be sappy but what I seen will be in my mind forever and the smell wont go away.

Thanx for letting me vent!

Well said. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. I'm part of a voulenter group here in Jax that is being trained for disaster search & rescue & emergency operations. Last week we got to see a slide show of pics that some of our members with the emergency operations center took when they were down there for a few weeks helping out. You are right, what you see in the media and in the paper doesn't do any justice for what the situation is like down there.

Are you out of NAS Jax? A buddy of mine just got out of HS-3 and shipped off to Japan.

I used to be stationed down there in Mayport about three years ago on the mighty Gettysburg CG-64. I'm actually trying to get stationed back down there next summer. Taking A1A from Jax Beach to Daytona was like one of my favorite rides.

A1A to Daytona is an awseome ride in a car or a bike. Good luck on getting back here and let me know how it goes. We have a pretty good bike scene here in Jax.
