Not when a girlfriend changes her mind and walks away with half of something (at the minimum).

More beneficial to not be married, tax wise.

I don't understand this. If you are married and get a divorce and the divorce rate as we all know is pretty dang high. Then the woman is entitled to half of whatyou have bought/owned since the marriage. Depending on the paper work and how that's worked out the girlfriend wouldn't be entitled to anything if she decided to leave. Dude might come to some settling terms with her but it's not because the law says so.
That's the way I understand it.

Dunno about the details so much as ...the in inevitable crunch ... ....a certainty at some stage....[:-]
and to avoid it all you should contemplate ...
A pre nuptial agreement (the prefered option) or a post nuptial bullet
(the not so good , yet somehow satisfying way) ...
is the only way to avoid being taken totally for a ride mate ...
Ow the joys ....

Divorce is derived from the ancient Latin word, which means to extract a man's ********* through his wallet.........(Robin Williams)
Never a truer word has been said...............[X(]
Get a prenuptial which spells out exactly what will happen, no ambiguities whatsoever, even down to household contents. Sounds petty I know, but my divorce cost me a house, BMW, all the furniture etc etc.(Happy to pay it, cheaper than getting life for murder)
Lawyers LOVE ambiguities - gives them a reason to charge exorbitant fees..............
