Been a solo rider for many years now ...
Used to ride in a group with well known mates.
Unless a group ride is with people that you are used to riding with on the roads, or is either setup and structured with some rules , they are trouble !
I personally cant stand follow the leader style group rides that are well planned , so for me its a general not happening thing ...
Riding with a bunch of strangers like that Thrasher , is bloody asking for trouble I think ...
Om glad you got something out of the experience though.....

The riders on my local site are great people, but way more aggressive than I'm comfortable with. Even if I can handle the riding mechanics, I just can't afford to risk a $300 speeding ticket every time I go out.
So, I ride solo. And plan to take it to the track when I want to ride like a lunatic.
