After replacing a bad motherboard on my notebook with a brand new motherboard, I've got a whole new problem.

The motherboard lights up and the fan comes on for like 1 to 2 seconds then shuts back off. The battery is charging, so I know the AC power to it is fine. Just refuses to fully power up.

My first inclination is that the CPU is bad, but it worked fine in the old motherboard (replaced motherboard because of bad AC connection). The hard drive doesnt even start to spin up. And no heat problems either. Since it never really gets going, no heat can build up. I also checked and reseated the ram. After the power button is pressed, the leds come on for the power button and the I/O led, and the fan begins to spin up. Then after about 1 second (if that), all lights go out and fan stops.

My first guess would be the RAM is in wrong, but if you checked that then I would make sure your hard drive is plugged in the correct way. They can be plugged in backwards or upside down and not work. Lastly, does it have a floppy drive??

i suggest going out and buying a desktop man. laptops are junk. I got my girlfriends dads laptop here thats got similiar problems and it would cost more to fix it than it would to go buy a whole new one. Desktops are a lot easier to fix plus way cheaper and easier to work on.

The battery could be fried as well. Or it could be the CPU. On a desktop if the power supply goes bad it can fry the board and the cpu. This is one of those problems were you got to have lots of parts to change around to make life easier. Do you have another motherboard in a different pc you can buy chance test the cpu in? Is the screen coming up with anything? I would lean more towards checking out the cpu. If the cpu and the board are good you should be able to get to BIOS.

This is the reason why i don't buy laptops. Littler the machine larger the pain in the ***

Sounds like a CPU problem to me. Did you install the new MB yourself, or was it professionally done?
I would check the cooling of the CPU. Is your fan installed correctly? Is it running? etc...
