Cleaning rubber from muffler?

Cleaning rubber from muffler?
Anyone else have this problem of melting their shoe on your pipe? When I do stand up wheelies my foot hits the pipe sometimes and now it looks like a big glob of crap. If so what do you use to clean it off? I tried some mineral spirits but didn't get to far...

Why don't you let the exhaust heat up and use something like a puddy knife to get it off. If it gets hot enough to melt the rubber once it will do it again. Just let it get nice a warm and try that. Or you can do like you do with wax on a carpet. Put an old rag over the rubber and use and iron or something extremely hot and transfer the rubber into the rag. Those are my idea and what I would try...

Thats cause it's welded there, ok this worked me. take the bike for a punt to get the pipe hot, now be carefull when you do this, wear gloves (not your riding ones) Keep the bike running, then use a cloth dipped in a bucket of cold water to wipe it off.
Other alternative, they sell products to clean up steam irons (yeah the one like your mum uses) in supermarkets! Don't use anything abbrasive.

I had the same problem on mine, I took a piece of 1/8" aluminum and put a chisle edge on it, the scrapped it off while the pipe was cold. After I got it all chipped off (I had ridden the bike some with the rubber on there so it got pretty hard when it cooled down) I took some 1000 grit sand paper and sanded the aluminum lines left on the pipe. After about 100 miles of riding the pipe had it's gold temper color back, you would never know I did anything to it. This was a simple and effective fix, no chemicles, no dealing with a hot pipe.

Did you not read the whole post? Last time I checked most pipes are made of stainless steel, stainless is a lot harder than aluminum. The chisle I used is made from aluminum, thereby not causing any damage to the pipe. I used the 2000 grit paper (I will get to this in a minute) to remove the VERY small amount of aluminum left behind because once again the pipe is harder than the chisle I made. Now as for the 2000 grit paper, this stuff is only slightly more abrasive than a sheet of regular paper. It more or less polishes, but hey feel free to make a sticky smeared mess all over your pipe. I will stick with my method, I prefer not to get burned, or make more of a mess than I already have.
