Default California to Florida laws

I grew up in BC, canada but I have lived in California the last 7 years and now I am thinking about moving to south Florida where I have done some work and loved it there but what I am wondering is what are the laws. I saw some people without helmets and some with so is for a 21 year old with 5 years motorcycle experience I am thinking it fine do not have a helmet even though I would but also I have heard that you dont have to have proof of insurance? I mean in california I have to have coverage for my bike and SR22 insurance because I have tickets so its expensive I have also heard that if you are on a bike and you are sitting at a red light it is legal for a bike to go through the red light if they look both ways first and this doesnt sound like it would be true but i am wondering. Please if you are know any of those sort of laws in Florida please let me know.

In order to ride without a helmet, you are required to have insurance (not sure how much coverage though). Otherwise, you do not need insurance... BUT motorcycle theft is as common there as anywhere else, so insurance is always a good idea.

Birmingham, AL- my friend had his 06 gsxr1k hotwired and stolen over his lunch break from a bank parking lot! Sadly, it can happen anytime, anywhere. He didn't have insurance so he is still paying for a bike he doesn't even get to ride anymore.

Ya I live in an area where automotive and motorcycle theft is extremely high which makes insurance go up but I know people that have had stuff stolen so I would have insurance to cover me for that but atleast I would not have to get the high risk insurance (sr22). Hmm Maybe I should look up what the personal fire arm laws are in Florida too.

You have to have medical insurance to ride without a helmet, no bike insurance is required although like stated is a VERY GOOD idea to get. We have pretty heavy fines for wierd stuff thought. Improperly mounted tag = $1000 fine (yes a thousand dollars)

Ya I think every state has some pretty harsh fines, in california i know a few people that have gotten fines that cost around $500 for not having there helmet strapped up.
