Break in
Hey guys, i just wanted to start a discussion on what is the best way to break in our bikes. Every time i bought a new bike the salesman would say ride it under 6,000 rpm for the first 600 or so miles. But i also heard that riding it hard is very crucial to a new bike and even better for it. What are your opinions?

RE: Break in
two buddies of mine both bought 2005 GSXR 1000's and i asked them how they were coming along on their break-in period and they both said, what break in period???? haha so im a little confused about this whole thing too. I would think it would be better to let the brand new motor work its way up gradually instead of leaving the dealer and redlining that thing all the way home!!

RE: Break in
I've heard it all when it comes in to breaking in a motor. Some people claim its stronger when broken in hard. The fact of the matter is that they dont know it's stronger because you can't break the same motor in two different ways to compare them. The owners manaul tells a certain way to break it in and being a mechanical engineer myself, I'll have to agree with the way the manual states since it was written by engineers. The break in period is to seat the bearings, rings, and seals properly. As long as everything seats properly, you had a successful breakin in my opinion. I'd say break it in the way the manual says if for no other reason than to be easy until you gain comfort on the new bike.

The least it wil do is give you the other side of the arguement, I sort of did both types on mine i was cautious but not overly so, i just tried to use the whole rev range up and down quite alot and changed the oil n filter at the standard 1st service of 600 mile. But didn`t redline the bitch till 1000 miles had past. Mine makes 152hp at the wheel so its not like it has caused any problems being a bit cautious and gentle at first.
O and no clutchless changes while breaking in.
And don`t forget if its a new bike there new tyres too, Caution!!

RE: Break in
i ride it nice till i get home take a few pictures , show my friends and get all geared up. then ride it like u stole it . for some reason how u break it in will teach the bike how to be for the rest of its life
. if u jus baby it in then it wont wanna ride hard if u break her in like a prom date then she will be ready for everything else u gonna dish out to her and it will be waiting for it and loving it .. lol just my opinion. i seel my bikes every 2 seasons so i dont keep them around long enuff to see what happens to them by the 3rd season.
