Well Cat...these days you never know.....LOL, but us texas guys are good lookin too if that makes you feel better! Couldn't recomend a hotel, I think the last hotel I stayed at there rented by the hour so no help on that one. Radissons in that area are always top notch and don't cost much more than a super eight. South of dallas is still kinda po-dunk country but still close to the sights and sounds, N.dallas just keeps getting bigger and bigger, depends on what kind of setting you wanna call home.

Corey, yeah Thousand Oaks is very nice but prices are soaring! I can buy 3 homes in Texas for what I paid for mine. Besides that, the whole family is going so I don't really have a choice, we stick together no matter what.

Shocktroop, Yeah, I hear the guys are nice looking and better mannered than the Cali guys. We are looking for a nice, middle to upper-class bedroom community. I don' think po-dunk is what we want...LOL.

I guess we'll just have to get out there and see where to stay from there.

(nothin like 6th street in Austin though).
6th street w00t, now you can start coming to the ROT Rally (Republic of Texas) its mostly hogs, but damn there is alot of **** going on, think...mini sturgis, but not so mini.

Your not far from a little mini road trip for the weekend either, San Antonio is right down the road, Schliterbaun, I think worlds largest waterpark, the riverwalk...tons of stuff.
I dont know if its the largest or not, reminds me i need to get there before they close up for the year. Riverwalk is tons of fun, lots of bars/restaurants/shops, but other than visiting the Alamo, going to Spurs games, Six Flags, Sea World, Schlitterbahn...there is not much more than bars and clubs to hit up. Although IMHO and lots of other riders, we have really nice roads, and the best of the country roads to get your ride on.

As far as being nicer people, I have been told that.....as a general rule poeple out of state are a bunch of *****. But i typically run into really cool people wherever i go. never the less, you will like it, it is different, but the cost of living is WAY cheaper than cali. My parents have a house that is appraised at $109,000 here is SA, but in cali it would sell for like $1,000,000. no joke.

Rrasco, I know you are not joking, I've already looked at some real estate sites. My sister just refinanced her 1375 sq.ft. house and it was appraised at $620,000. A much larger house in the area we are looking at is going for $100,000 to $150,000.

My house is worth close to $900,000! Here, My money is stretched just to make the mortgage payments so I am looking forward to having some money in the bank and buying more toys!

I don't think I'll miss the beach that much as long as I am driving distance to a lake. And tell me about tis ROT rally?!?! Never heard of it, is it an annual thing?

lackland is pretty cool, they have all of those decommissioned jets setup for viewing. i actually went to school on Kelly AFB (now Kelly USA) right next door, the classrooms were in the old technology center next to the warfare center, across the street from boeing, lockheed, and GE. crazy just to see 737 engines getting towed around on 18 wheelers. and you get to watch the F-16 sqadron right there run touch-n-gos all day long.

+1 on moving to Texas!
I'm a texan, born and raised, and I love the state.
Now, the honesty unfolds. I was born and raised in Austin...
And as such, I don't really like Dallas. It's a pretty decent city, but it's too big and crazy for me.
That's just personal though, as I've traveled a lot and there are many cities I dislike a LOT more than Dallas.
All I can say is come down to Austin hit the hillcountry with meh!
Good luck in your search and I hope the move goes well!

I would definitely love to show you guys the places to go...in Austin
If you wanna come down here and see another great part of the state, I'd be MORE than happy to oblige.
However, I don't know Dallas...at all. Tend to not spend much time up there at all [:'(]
Hope someone can help. Like I said, I'll show you around Austin and the neighboring hillcountry though!
