Well its released on a CDMA network but still uses a SIM and has the ability to run off GSM Frequency, Im Excited!!!!
hmmm you might have just broken my heart D2... i have a local service called Metro PCS and it doesnt use sim cards. ive been told that any cdma phone can be plashed to work on their service as long as it doesnt use a sim card.. so i wonder where this would leave me [>:]
Havoc....if it hasn't been done yet it will be done soon....here is the thing though...your carrier doesn't have blackberries or the ability to serve them....getting a blackberry would be useless for you because only phone calls and text messaging would work...basic internet COULD be configured also BUT none of the BB native apps that use the net would work....and some if not most 3rd party apps wouldn't work either....trust me...not worth the time

Edit for replied post from D2

He would be able to use the basic wap browser by using the same "hack" that people use to get basic wap functionality on BB's on tmobile for only 5.99(the tzones package) instead of adding the BIS package for 19.99

I think this is the first CDMA using a SIM. It is on Verizon which is CDMA. But the Quad Frequencies it runs off allows both CDMA and GSM. It depends on what your carrier runs off of but I think with Metro you have to flash anything that isnt their phone for them to recognize it, it should be able to work though,
Nope....sprint beat verizon to the punch almost 2-3 years ago with the i830 by samsung

And quad band has nothing to do with CDMA and GSM in one phone. Quad band is simply that....one signal type...multiple frequencies(bands)....quad band GSM is GSM in these frequencies "850/900/1800/1900" keep in mind that doesn't cover japan or south korea....

Right, but a lot of CDMA phones arent quad band, which allows it to run on the frequencies. Most CDMA are 900/1900. The facr that the Storm has 850/1800 is allows those GSM networks to pick up on it. as well as the 1900, and sometimes the 2100 depending on the phone, which CDMA doesnt run off of.

So your looking to get a VZW phone for the purpose of having it flashed over to Metro? Once you find a phone do some research on if it has been flashed and if so how successful people have been, no use paying hundreds for a bad *** phone that will just be crippled on the metro network. Check out www.howardforums.com And for the most part...VZW is your best bet as far as flashing to metro is concerned...stay away from sprint phones because 98% of them will not be able to be flashed completely and you will be missing data services such as MMS and internet

Yea. The Storm is missing a few frequencies though...there really hasn't been an actual "World Phone"...

No but the simple fact that it still uses a SIM on CDMA and has the QuadBand allows it to be unlocked to GSM, unlike 95% of CDMA phones.
