Default The Biker Wave

I don't know the official name for it.

Wondering if you guys experience the same thing...

Example:

Geared up and headed down the highway. Few miles down the road, what do I see? A fellow rider coming the opposite direction.. so as we pass, I throw out a friendly "peace sign" and he/she just rides on by. No wave back, NOTHING.

So I think to myself, maybe he just didn't see me. Few more miles down the road, another rider, I give another friendly wave... NO Response!

So finally I think to myself "f*&K it, im not going to wave at anyone" Then just as soon as I DONT chuck a deuce at the next bikers way, he is the first to throw up the peace sign...

Just something that I giggle about when riding. Happens to me almost every time I ride. Does it happen to you?

I wouldn't put so much thought into it. Wave or don't wave, it's your prerogative. There are many times I don't wave...but it's usually because I don't see them until the last second or my I'm clutching or covering the clutch for some reason (unsure of the driver next to me), or maybe I'm just too damn cold to move my arm away into the cold air. Either way, I try to wave to as many people as I can or at least give a nod. I drove my friend's car last night, following him home. He is a newb. A rider passed and waved, but my friend didn't. I think it's more of inexperience (first time on the highway) than anything else.

I sometimes wave and sometimes dont wave.....You can say that I am a selective waver......Most of the timeit isnot intentional when someone waves and I do not wave back, and I do not take it personally when I wave and the other does not wave back......

One of my good friends puts it the best. He always says "I dont know them....why the **** should I wave to them?".........Now I do not personally follow this....but I can appreciate it. I dont remember signing a document when I purchased my motorcycle that stated I had to wave at every passer byer that was on two wheels. If I chose to wave....meh so be it....If I choose not to waive....meh so be it...

Its kinda like the internet to me....If you let what someone else who has absolutely nothing to do or any impact on you bother you.......you need to seek out help.

edit....you cant see me but i am waving at you right now........

You're pretty new, Ebinz, so we won't roast you for what is probably the fourth rerun this year of the 'wave or don't wave' issue. Check earlier posts and you'll find it - extensive......and inconclusive.
BTW I wave to everyone.

Thanks for not roasting me. I dont take waving to heart either, I just always think its funny I wave and wave and the minute I dont someone will wave. Like clockwork. Like I said just makes me giggle, not trying to debate waving or not.

We dont wave here ... I have never had a biker wave at me as such, what we do in fact do is nod, much easier and safer ..its either a nod or a twist of the head to the side, bit like when a guy winks and twists his head ..I have rarely passed another bike that hasnt nodded at me ..do you guys really take a hand off to wave??

Jules

^^ Probably because you would have to take your throttle hand off to wave...what with being on the other side of the road.

I like the idea of nodding, though. But if I do it here, people will think I am too snobby to raise my hand...guess I better just move to the Isles.
