My oldest sister always had the mentality to not whip her kids... either remove them from the situation or remove the object from them. Biggest bunch of BS I've ever seen in my life. To this day, her kids are rotten and now they are adults. I still want to whip their asses!

...But yes, a quick backhand (with one or two fingers only, you don't want to split the kid's lip, just startle him) right on the kisser and a stern "BE QUIET, or I SAID NO!!" would have solved the problem right as he started to scream.
