ABS standard for Honda in '09?
It def. should NOT be standard.
Optional, sure. But I know I wouldn't want it installed on my bike.
It can be nice in the car in the snow, but I don't really like it there either when its warm out.
Personal preference I suppose.

Sounds like Honda is making an attempt to squid "proof" motorcycles. I agree with buddy1901, ABS would take out the finese from the controls. If this does become standard, I bet aftermarket brake systems that don't have ABS will become very popular. I know if I got a new bike and it came standard with ABS, that would be my first mod. Man... 22 additional pounds.
from what i understand, ABS makes sure your tire doesn't come to the point of locking up. It will figure out your speed, deacceleration and (i believe heat) of the rotor - this will tell the system to automatically send brake pressure to the other tire(s). On a motorcycle if you become in a situation of being short-stopped, you react so fast sometimes you over brake on the rear or front (which could cause a slide-out or an endo). The ABS on the motorcycle will prevent you using too much brake on one side because of your panic state.
I know alot of people on here have push the limits to their bikes, playing with wheelies and endos (which is all about throttle and brake control) - even if you just like to slide out the rear wheel when comming to a stop-light, your experimenting with your rear brake pressure to see when the wheel actually locks up. But some just ride for transportation and dont know ANYTHING about their bike's ability.
it's just what marc said, Honda is making a "squid proof" bike. But a squid is not going to pay more if it's an option and i'm not going to pay more because i'm already skilled at my breaking ability.

well if you pull a sensor from it's spot, it isnt going to be able to work.. (pretty basic) but you still added 11lbs and paid a few hundered more..
haha you seen a spam of "ABS" systems on craigslist... "WTS stock ABS 09' system... $5, and i'll throw in a lap dance from my girlfriend"

Well durrrr but the mechanical parts of the brake system should still work. I've seen a car run with the sensors unplugged, one with the sensors fudged up (not working), and with the abs light on. All cars stopped fine.
