You're probably right Nauree, unless of course the companies are as bad off as everyone is saying...then maybe a factory or two may end up closing down.

The problems are all the restrictions that have been placed on them by people who know absolutely nothing about cars or running a business. Then they have to run to the people who've created the problem and ask for money.

Work for a $1 per year...pfft!! like people said nice gesture, but not good enough. They are still going to sit back with their nice cars, houses...etc asking everyone else to bail their a$$es out while nothing happens to them. <- ok i'm sorry so they won't make 21 mil this next year, booowhoo.

All I gotta say is I feel sorry everyone involved and wish we put measure in place to prevent this from happy again. +1 for not being able to bail out debt with debt.

i think the problems with the big 3 are huge. its not just one thing its a million ever where from not being efficient enogh to just having a bad reputation. i think one of there biggest problems is there reputation has sunk. im a huge gm fan and dont get me wrong i have owned a Toyota and a Mitsubishi neither of which were good experiences. but gm sure built some crap in the 80's and into the 90's and practically all the way up to about 2003ish when they started to over haul there fleet.

i honestly believe if we didnt have this recession gm wouldnt be having the problems they are having financially. prior to this recession gm has sunk millions if not more like billions into restructuring the company and trying to turn it around. i think the best thing the government could do is force them into a bankrupcy make the reorganize and then back them and there suppliers with government loans.

by the way just to some fun facts about toyota and gm

- the geo prizm was built by toyota
-the pontiac vibe is built by toyota its toyota version is the matrix
- there are a few more past gm products built by toyota
- gm and toyota have a joint venture production plant in fremont california call nummi some corollas and toyota tacomas are made there as well as the vibe.
- gm has shared hybrid technology with toyota and for a few years had a joint agrement to work together on developing a hydrogen system

- till 2008 saturn vue had an option for a honda v6 engine.

I counted in my phone book, in my city there is 9 Dodge dealers, 16 ford dealers, and only 2 Honda dealers (not counting acura). Not to mention all the surounding ford and dodge dealers. I personally think they have flooded there own market, droped the value of their cars. And thats whats hurting them.
Not to meantion all there leasing and buy backs
