there's something eerily suspicious about bailing out debt with more debt...

i think when you look at it you have to bail them out because if they fail it will cause a even worse recession than we have now, dare i say depression? I think that if they do give this bailout they need to use it to pay off some of the benefit packages and they need to look into working with UAW to restructure their agreements so that this wont happen again
I fail to see why you think not bailing them out will cause a depression. This bailout is similar to the New Deal program which made the depression worse.
Also people think that 2.8 million people will lose their jobs if they file bankruptcy. Not true at all, they are not closing their doors forever just restructuring.

The has killed the American worker. They served their purpose in the early/mid part of the 20th century. Now its an excuse for more money for the same work. The people working at those plants, demanding $50/h for a job that pays $15 in other countries is the reason for the soon to be death of the American car brand/worker.

This follows other arguments... I live in Boeing's former headquarter state. I hate that too. I agree with out sourcing. The s have given the manufacturers no other choice.

Its all about entitlement.

In spite of all that, its truly ****ty that they are dying and that we get to bail them out... ChryCo for the second time.

I felt a bit sorry for them, i thought of all the workers losing jobs etc. Then i started getting some info, and especially what some of the people working there make. Needless to say, i no longer feel sorry for them.

that point is extremely debatable... some of the biggest structure elements of our current financial system that has allowed this country to develop into the world's leading economy were put in place by the new deal

c. the foreign automakers, like toyota, recieve subsidies from the government and always have so it makes it hard for us to compete just on that
why can't we put a Tariff on foreign cars to make up for the subsidies their governments are giving them, then use the tax profit from those tariffs to subsidize/bailout our own car makers.

yeah it would **** some countries off and make us look like hypocrites (we often pressure countries into lowing tariffs and other trade barriers so we can sell them our crap) But its not like the countries that are selling our cars are buying much of our stuff anyways, (go to japan and Korea, how many fords will you see driving around?)

They*re made here domestically by U.S. workers so that subsidy would still come from tax payer dollars when they cut back .. but the key is getting around u nions that someone else spoke about. The big 3 are MNC*s (multinational corporations) with some of their acquisitions and GM foresees 75% of their sales coming from overseas soon (60% currently) so that would worsen the problem when the other countries retaliate by raising their tariffs as well. History has proven it. It*s a complicated problem they dug themselves into with no magic bullet.

a bailout would work in a perfect world where the 34 billion would magically solve all of their problems...but it won't. it's a patch of cardboard on a leaky roof. If both ford and gm are in the ****ter that says a lot about their management and marketing strategies...if they even have any. They'd squander it and you'd never see a penny again. Like someone else said, they'd just be back for more in a few months. A tanking biz is tanking unless they miraculously improve business...not recieve bailouts. At the same time it's extremely ****ty because, again, like someone else said...there are so many jobs directly related to the big 3 that it will be a day of reckoning. That glorious idea of capitalism may come back to haunt us and bring seven layers of hell with it. It'll take some serious cleanup when millions are put out of work. Think about all the steel, plastic, aluminum, etc. used to make millions of cars a year.
