coming from a 900, your not going to be happy with a 600. I'm assuming your talking about a 600RR or the 1000RR.
Depending on price, Id probably get the 06. Its basically the 05 with new plastics, (that look better in opinion), its up a little of power and down a little on weight. Like I said, it all depends on price. the difference in performance between the two really is very little. If the 06 is more than a grand more than the 05, I'd get the 05.
Your asking price is a bit steep for your 900. Even if its in mint condition. you can probably pick up an 04 1000RR (same as 05) $6,000 or less. In fact, I've seen 929'ssell for $4,000.
there is a plus side though. there are some die hard 900RR people out there that will dump an insane amount of money on a nice 900RR. The 900RR has kind of become the 69 camaro of the sportbike world.

Not a muscle fan, but I agree with the Camaro comparo (ha!). And trust me when I say there are many light years between an 893 900RR and a late digits CBR-RR. You will not be disappointed getting the 600RR first.
That's what I would do. I would develop a close relationship with a modern 600 for a year...even eighteen months...before going litre-class again. If at all. The extra insurance can really be hard to justify sometimes now. My 22 cents.
