Default My Hurricane Project

Hi everyone, greetings from the tropical paradise called El Salvador. I wanted to be part of the community since I recently got my hands on a 1987 CBR 1000F "Hurricane" as a personal project and might need or be able to offer some help as I advance in the restoration process.

I've bought the bike from a former racer/mechanic who lived in LA and is enjoying his retirement here. He bought it from a dude who use to ride it but left it to gather rust right after the ominous chain rattle began, The bike was imported by her original owner a couple of decades ago, that makes me the fourth owner. Odo is still below 6K (is it nrmal to have the noise so early? It dies out around 2.5k rpm though), not sure if is the original count. Overall condition of the bike is very good, it starts and runs and besides the rattling we all are aware of there are just few things to be taken care of. Some cosmetic repair in the cowling panels, new tires, brake and electrical work (I recently noticed the fuel pump relay is blown after a few starts and a couple of miles riding around testing the bike). Previous owner cleaned and synced carbs, changed fluids and put on a new battery.

I already roamed around the forum for a few days and well, I decided to stick around.

Displays are a little cracked, can those be replaced?

Welcome to the forum Rob!
I guess you need to keep an eye on ebay for the panels and gauges. Sometimes they do come up.
Keep good fresh oil in her so the CCT stay good. I don't know the availability of new ones anymore.

Welcome to the CBR Forum Rob,

I have one just like yours - just a little more complete!
As for the cam chain rattle, on a bike of that age it is highly likely it has been once around the clock. Look at wear on the footpegs - that's usually a give away.
There is plently of info in the section with how to's etc. Ask any questions you need.

Cheers, SB
