i've got a 88 honda hurricane 1000 i just purchased. took to the local shop to get new tires/battery. they said the cam chain tensioner and alternator chain tensioner needed to be replaced. the rattling noise i see from other members is a common problem of this bike. the rattling noise pretty much goes away after riding it for a few minutes. how can i tell if the alternator chain tensioner really needs replaced or if the shop is trying to put one on me since it costs so much labor for that.

Yes, CCT rattle is a common issue with the CBR1000F. If it goes away after a few minutes it is usually the cam chain tensioner. But they can rattle after surprising little wear and rattle for a very long time before needing replacement.

There have been a number of fixes proposed by members, apparently the most successful by HenryM - see link https://cbrforum.com/forum/cbr-1000f...0f-cct-139116/ - although his bike was stolen mid testing

Alternator chains can need replacing though not as often as the CCT.

A little more information may assist us in helping you. How many miles/kilometers has your bike done? Have you the service history?

it has 13k miles on it. i just bought the bike. i'm not sure of the service history on it. it was parked in a garage for a while, then the guy i bought it had it for a year but he used it as a stunt bike. i'm trying to restore it.
