Default Soon to be biker :)

hey guys, i'm a soon to be 2 wheeler =)

My names Jamie, 22 and from the UK.

Soon i'm going to be the proud owner of cbr, only a 125 though.

I have a question, I've been told to stay away from brand new and i should go pre owned, what are your thoughts on this?

And how much money would i save buying a pre owned but in tip top shape 125r

Thanks

Welcome the CBR Forum Jamie,

I agree with the advice on getting a secondhand bike. For a number of reasons. 1. It will be cheaper and 2. Not that it won't matter less, but if you drop it, less money 'lost' and it will probably be cheaper to insure as well.

I would go one step further and suggest a starter bike that is unfaired. Again. less damage if you drop it. The CBR125e I think is unfaired.

Best of luck with your choice. Wear the proper safety gear and do rider safe courses.

Cheers, SB

Welcome.
The 125 is a good starter. Fairings or not is up to you. You will have fun on whatever you get.

Ride safe!

Welcome to CBRF! I assume your goal is to step-up to the bigger bikes (600 or whatever) and not stick with the 125. My advice would be to definitely go with a used one, and get what is cheap and in mechanically good shape. Don't worry about finding one that's in top shape. Don't be afraid of a little bit of fairing rash (so long as the frame/forks/motor/etc) are in good condition. If anything, it makes the bike less attractive to thieves.

Go used, but make sure that it's well kept up. You never really know if you're the 2nd owner or the 22nd owner so take a good look and if you don't know what to look for bring someone with you who does.
