Running on 2 Cyln...1992 CBR F2
Hi..
Fascinated by the bike world, however extremely new to this lifestyle and to this forum thingy. I love bikes ever since I was young. Well I finally bought a 1992 CBR F2. Can some please tell me what I should do first with the bike? It was female owned and was sitting for approximately 2 years. I took it to a mechanic and he said that it is running no 2 cylinders. Kinda makes sense because there is no power in the throttle. I would appreciate advice on mateneince for this bike. How often should I turn on the bike and let it run if it was sitting for a while. When should I change my tires. HELPP. I think I uploaded the picture so if it doesn't show up, I will try again. Thank you my community.

RE: Running on 2 Cyln...1992 CBR F2
Welcome. Clean looking bike!
If you have some wrench time under your belt, I'd suggest picking up a shop manual for the bike and giving your new baby a nice inspection / tune up. You may find some carburator fouling, time-wornspark plugs, etc. Another thing I'd look at is your fuel lines, tank, carbsetc. After sitting for two years there's bound to be some varnishing (rubbery greenish/whiteish sometimes brownish residue caused by your fuel just sitting for ages)which may requiresometime cleaning up your carbs and making sure your fuel lines and tank are clean and clear. Pretty annoying to clean up, but a good opportunity to get intimate with your bike. (Metaphorically speaking).
Looks like the chain could use some lovin'--but I guess that would be secondary to your cylinder issue. I wouldn't really worry about your rubber yet. Looks like there's enough to play around with until you get her humming again.

Thanks guys and sorry for not putting it in the right forum. I'll get used to this soon.
In any case, I took it to a mechanic and he said he will do a minor tune-up including cleaning the carbs and changing the oil, plugs, etc. for $260.00. I would love to take time out to fix it myself but I manage a gas station 7 days a week plus I am a full-time engineering student. It's a great thing I have some time to ride the back.
I thank you all and hopefully this is the begining of a new friendship.
