Default Cbr600fn 1992 running boggy when washed or raining

Hi all

I recently bought a cbr 600 f-n. all was going great until someone smashed the mudguard and I had to remove it. Still waiting for replacement part but whenever I wash it or it rains the bike feels like it floods with water and will become groggy
Usually it dies away and returns to normal but washed it today and went for a ride and it's just groggy all the time. It's a hot day too so surely water would evaporate. Idles at 1000rpm now not 1500 like it should, cuts out every now and then and has lost quite a bit of acceleration. Makes a horrible noise too and backfires on deceleration with a stock exhaust. Anyone got any ideas?

well i think that the problem is not the rain or water... i think you got to clean and sync the cabs ... just my opinion

Well, like Gabriel said, you might need to clean your carbs, but you seem certain that until today, this issue usually accompanied the bike getting outwardly wet, when rained on or when washed - is this a California model? The reason I ask is because I'm fairly certain I read about something similar to this in a previous thread, and it turned out that a cannister of some sort, that related to the California emissions apparatus, was filling up with water and muddying up the works.
Do a search on the F2 forum for whatever keywords you could think of relating to emissions, water, you get the idea.

Thanks for advice guys, ill see how she starts up tomorrow and if still groggy ill have a look at carbs and air filter see if they're dirty or not. Hopefully its not carbs as this is my first big bike and dont fancy ripping it apart and doing more harm than good and ill check the feeds as far as i know its not a cali model but ill still look and see if anyone else has had this problem.

Started bike up this morning still got the groggy loss of power but I also noticed that there was quite a loud sucking noise when I put the choke on. Would this mean that the air filter is clogged and needs cleaning? Lack of air would explain the exhaust popping and also the strong smell of petrol that I noticed this morning as the mixture would be extremely rich with little air?

I'll check the filter tonight I think

I started my bike up this morning and she still sounded groggy, noticed a strong smell of petrol and a quite loud sucking noise like a vacuum cleaner.
I'm not experienced with bikes but I reckon it will be my air filter as having no mudguard would cause dirt and mud to flick up in there causing a blockage which would result in no air getting in and a rich mixture, would that explain the smell, exhaust popping and the loss of power?

Start it, let it idle, and then spray the motor with carb cleaner at the areas where the motor is connected

got into airbox and filters cracked to death and actually broke off in 2 places, do u reckon that this will have made carbs dirty and be causing all of this? carbs look fairly clean from whats visible and this only started after i washed it :s

Well, I'd say it's obvious you've found your problem - you may as well give your carbs a proper, thorough cleaning, while you're this far into the bike.

Good luck!!
