Just bought my upgrade from my 1st bike.

I did have a 88 Ninja 250 - rode it for a season put a ton of miles on got rid of my leaning fear increased my fear of cars.

Now i have an 87 600 " cane ". has 13k on the clock and the front lower fairings are missing but it does have the stock blinkers on it. Its black and red soon when i get photobucket working again i'll post pics!

Bought it for a grand even. Only thing i can tell is wrong that under hard acceleration the chain jumps. already have a 45 sprocket comming in for the rear the previous owner said front was fine but i havn't removed the cover yet.

 

Welcome aboard Alex! Good job on learning w/ your 250. Many start on higher cc machines but starting w/a smaller cc machine, that's allowed you to learn proper technique w/a much more forgiving bike.

Yep, get that sprocket changed & chain adjusted asap. You don't want it coming off during a ride.

That's pretty low mileage for an 87. Good luck getting it fixed and cleaned up.

 

Welcome, like others said, good job of learning on a smaller bike. Now you can iron out any glitches she might have and ride w/ confidence.

 

I didn't take any pictures but the front sprocket seems to be ok just the rear one has curved teeth.. the front is 14 teeth and i'm changing the back to 45... the chain is a " 530" ?

When i push the bike it seems like i feel it skip up front but maybe its just the back?

 

Replace the chain and sprockets at the same time. You won't have to tear it apart twice and it's been known to make things last longer if both changed together.

So while waiting for the sprockets i threw some clp ( gun lube and cleaner ) on the chain and it doesn't seem to slip now?? maybe it was just dry and tight? Well i'll have my appointment at the shop on friday for them to cut and change it all out!.

Loving this bike! The short handlebars are something to get used to though....

Also on my ninja i flipped my shift lever to GP style anyone else do this? I also did it on the CBR too

Yea, alot of people flip the shifters.

I did for years but once I stopped racing regulrly I flipped back, just easier when switch back and forth on different bikes.
