Default NEWB from Down state IL

My name is Kevin. I'm a 33 yr old responsible husband and father of a new born baby girl. I work professionally in a hazardous environment on a daily basis and respect life to its fullest. I have ridden dirt bikes and tool around on friends motorcycles, mostly a 2003 gsxr750, which is lowered, cammed, and fully bolted. I can't ride worth a **** and have no skills. I respect the rules of the road and will ride with the notion that each and every automobile on the rode can pull out in front of me at any moment. I'm going to purchase and use all PPE and take all motorcycle training courses once I obtain my license. I love my wife and baby and plan to be a member of this community for the long haul.

With that said, I bought my first F-ing bike and am picking it up Friday night! I'll respect all safety talks, as I myself, am my brothers keeper. Please be happy for me and I have been reading about nothing buy horror for purchasing an SS as my first bike.

I was going to buy new but here I got a practically new bike for ONLY 25 dollars sales tax, no freaking fees and a 3.49% 48 month loan at my local credit union. $130/month for the ride of my life. I'm soooo glad I didn't buy that leftover 2009 gsxr750 for $9000. Peace brothers and sisters. Pics to come this weekend, I promise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honda rules!

Kind regards,
Kevin

Nice man. Like the Orange.

You'll love it.

Just take a MSF Course when you can, that will give you a great base.

Welcome!

Thanks everybody for being so kind. I'll do my best to not give motorcyclist a bad name, I don't know how that's going to turn out, initially. Last night was hell. Drove from St.Louis to Louisville KY and back, through a blizzard at 30mph to pick up this bike. It didn't begin to storm until I was 3-hrs into my trip and I didn't want to stay at a hotel because I was afraid some-1 would steal my bike.

I am 100% happy. I'm 5'11, 170 and this bike fits be perfectly, like a glove! My wife and I are going to call her "Orange". She is like new. I see absolutely no mechanical wear at all. My only minor complains is that the windshield and the black stickers have very fine swirl marks which likely resulted in the previous owner wiping off the storage dust without rinsing or delicate care and the battery is a little weak because she has sat in storage for so long. The stickers can be removed/replaced (which I wont do) and almost all shields I have seen have em and the battery is a simply fix.

For now, I've just got a couple of pics of her in her new home because she is a tired at the moment. I used an open bike trailer and drove her through tons of ice, salt, and chemical. I gave her a quick rinsing with the power washer but she is still a mess. I've got the heater going because the rinse immediately turned into a sheath of ice doing very little cleaning. When she is detailed I'll post some of higher quality.

Any tips on detailing? How can I clean her up and make her as beautiful as she was last night? I'm about to search through threads, but if you have something good to share, please do.

I lived in C-dale for several years, but now live in Alton, right outside of St.Louis. I graduated from C-dale and met my wife there. Where are you at?

Holy crap. Things keep getting better. My decals that have swirls are covered by a clear coat! I pulled out the ol' porter cable random orbital, a orange and white pad, and two stages of Pinnacle XMT polish and tested on a two test areas and the swirls are history. I'd post pics, but it's not worth it yet. I highly suggest polishing your bike if you have any swirls in the paint. I'm using the exact same set up from this video.
