Default new owner of a 2000 cbr 600 f4!!

whats up gents,

i picked up a 00 honda cbr 600 f4 last week. it has a clean tittle and 34k on the clock. she seems to run pretty good. the last owner was a tool so for the past week i have been freshening her up a bit. i just changed the oil with honda gn-4 i believe with honda filter. changed front and rear brake fluid with dot 4 honda stuff, changed coolant with honda fluid, polished the paint and degreese/cleaned up the frame, cleaned the chain and lubed it up. i forget what else i did but as you can see i am a bit **** about my stuff

not really knowing the history of the bike i am tempted to take her in for a valve check/adjustment and i want to do a tune up, last owner said the carbs were cleaned within the past two months. i removed the air box and the k&n air filter was pretty dirty so i cleaned it off with k&n cleaner, just looking down the carb ports they did look nice and clean and the sliders did have that suction sounds and moved freely. she seems to run good and very responsive so i hope the owner was being honest. it also has brand newish Michelin p4 tires with was said to be 500-700 miles. i picked the bike up for $1800 so i feel like i got a decent deal.

what lead me to the honda was a week before i had just brought my first bike. a 03 yamaha r6. within two days i ended up going down and totaling it, i fell around 80-100 mph. i had only a helmet and a okay jacket. i ended up just getting rashed up pretty good and a little sore but other then that i am okay. stupid mistake and i learned my lesson.

other then that i think this sums up my welcome intro, nice to meet you guys and looking forward to a asking all the noob questions i can lmaoo. name is mat by the way!
i will post pics up once i get the fairings back on now that she is all cleaned up.

mods are yoshimera slip on and a k&n air filter

Damn !! 80-100mph! I'm glad you're ok. What exactly happened if u don't mind me asking?

If you have some extra time I suggest you do the valve clearances yourself, it's not too hard. the shops charge $400-$500 around here $_$

Can't wait to see ur pics!

Welcome to CBRF! I hate to hear you came off it at that speed, but it could have certainly been worse!

Be careful, these things can be dangerous

Best to get a few hundred miles in before playing around. Glad to hear your OK, could have been worse. Only when riding become second nature should you play around. I have been riding for 46 years (legally lol) and I am very cautious when getting aboard a different bike. Like getting on a different horse, get to know how it reacts first.

Welcome to the forum.

Default Me too!(maybe)

I'm actually looking at a 00 honda 600F tomorrow! I'm new to sports bikes so I wasn't sure if they were still good bikes but I have a Honda shadow right now and Honda is such a sturdy brand. Since this was posted in 2016 I feel better about buying an older bike I'm not very savvy just yet, though. What should I definitely be checking when I go to look at this bike tomorrow?

Btw here's a link to the bike. Guy says his nephew just left it and hes not firm on the price at all. Oem is 2k, I figure I can get it for 1600 since the ferings are cracked.

Posted here and not new thread since I figured it was relevant since OP just bought a similar bike
