Had the bike a couple of weeks now, a `96 model with 58K on the clock. She is in lovely condition and goes great. Have been on a few decent runs. Southampton today in fact and very impressed so far apart from a recurrence of a pain between shoulder blades. I will be attempting to fot VFR800 in the future if anyone has some hints!

Welcome to the site, Mark! I've got a '95 and I love it. It's actually one of the most comfortable "sport" bikes I've ever ridden. I also have bar risers on mine (gen-mar brand). You may want to look into them. Some use VFR bars for a little more height, too. Also keeping your grip loose and using your legs/back will help.
