Welcome to the forums!
As far as the "to buy" list they are making for you, I got my stuff cheap!
1) There's a walmart motorcycle battery charger that works awesome for 20 bucks.
2) I got both my wheel stands online for 25 bucks each.
3) I downloaded my service manual for free... so keep your eyes open!
I guess paper wouldn't hurt, but I eat romin noodles all day...

Get those stands, makes your life so much easier!

Welcome to the forums.
Good to see that youve got a pretty good head on your shoulders and waiting to get your gear before riding.
I just recently went through the MSF course myself and i highly recommend it. even some of the more experienced riders said that they still learned a few things.
Most of the general maintenance is pretty mild in difficulty. stands improve that immensly. so if youve done some wrenchin on cars and stuff before it shouldnt be too difficult to make the transition.
Ride safe and keep the shiny side up!!
