New to the CBR Family
Hello All,
My name is Shane, Current student of Mechanical Engineering in Oregon. I've been in Power sports since around Age 13 when I began restoring bikes on my own. My first Bike was a 1982 xr100 I rebuilt at age 13. I had a rough childhood and got adopted by my aunt and uncle at age 13. While they knew nothing about the workings of mechanical things they supported my curiosity and gave me the garage to make my own. We had a family friend who worked at a body shop and collected vintage motorcycles. In the summer's I'd work with him where I learned to paint cars and work on bikes. He gave me my first and helped guide me. Most I learned through research, trial and error and forums such as this place.
The following is a picture of me, 14, with my 74 kawasaki g5
This was a few years later after i'd finished it. Age 16
Here's a CT90 I restored
A 67 yamaha trailmaster
An un flattering shot of me with my 75 cb400f
We moved to oregon from california my sophomore year of high school. That's were the majority of this hobby flourished. I worked out of our garage fixing and restoring bikes for people up until i moved away for college, that's how I paid my way through high school for my expensive hobby. I did cars too. Here's my first vehicle ( with 4 wheels) I bought spring of junior year. Had her all restored by prom of my senior year.
When It was time to leave home and go of to college I ended up parting with most of my toys. It hasn't been until recently that i've been able to get back into it.
Here's a pic of one of my current rides i've resurrected
The common theme you might have guessed is all these bikes are ancient!!!
How many of you guys can even recognize this old bike?
Growing up with little income, I usually started with old beaters and made them nice. My 59 ford I pulled from a field I got for 600 bucks, and once I was through painting and getting it back on the road it only had me for maybe 2500 total. I've always really enjoyed vintage stuff!
Here's 16 year old me being a typical dumb teenager putting around the neighborhood on an old 55' tiger cub
Unfortunately it wasn't mine but a customers who was having a hard time getting it running (damn lucas carbs!)
So what brings me here, well i'm older now, wiser, a slightly bit better off and have always wanted an 80's style street bike. If it isn't clear now, well I'll just say it, I really like older bikes! The problem is you can find cruisers and dirtbikes from the 80's/90's all day long. But where did all the sports bikes go? I actually googled this and the result is obvious i guess, most got wrecked! I finally came across one one I got my grubby hands on. This weekend I picked up an 88' cbr1000F hurricane!
For an 88' she's in great shape! has been sitting for years so fairly soon (when my bank account rebounds a bit) I'll be getting her road worthy again.
was dropped at some point, so the left side has some scratches and cracks, but otherwise she's clean. Made a 14hr round trip drive to lay my paws on her, and I can't wait to start the resurrection. Picked her up for 800 bucks!
Anyway, I look forward to joining the community and gaining/sharing as much knowledge as I can. look's like i'll spend most of my time in the cbr1000f threads, maybe i'll run in to some of you down there. I've worked on, restored, painted all kinds of bikes and vehicles, hopefully I've given you guys a decent first impression
Thanks for Reading!

Welcome to the forum Shane! I can tell you that is probably the best name in the entire world. I have a pie chart to prove it. If that is not enough, I can show you my drivers license as that is my first name also. :-)
Awesome pics for your introductory post BTW.
You will find a great group of people on here. We are global in our homes but we are all one in what we love.
