I would say that the internal drive for the trip meter is completely broken. That movement is due to the vibrations coming from the engine at higher RPM's. I've never taken one apart, so can't speculate on how difficult if possible it would be to repair. Ebay is where I'd start.

Thanks, now I have an idea of where to start looking. I'll post an update of what I find when I have a chance to pull it apart.

I would agree with @IDoDirt I’ve not had to work on the whole assembly but I need to repair the stem that you press to reset the trip. Very much a pain. Now that 3D printers are more available I would print one now instead of repairing the existing one.

Ran out of paint and had problems with the sprayer so it's a 20' finish but I'm totally stoked with the end result. I may strip the paint and try again come winter but I'm just going to enjoy her until then. It's funny, I swear she's faster all prettied up!
