Hi, I have a 1990 Honda cbr 1000f, no charge on battery
So I bought a used 1990 Honda cbr 1000f. A few weeks ago.
39,000 miles.
Two weeks later, battery fail. Replaced rectifier. Didn't fix issue.
Looks like either stator or alternator.
Heae noise now, why I ride. Seems to be from that area.
Been charging battery and doing short cruises. To be able to ride.
Have apt 4 shop to confirm and get repair estimate.
Has a aftermarket pipe, I have replaced plugs and seafood thru it recently and new radiator fluid in it.
Pretty sluggage below 3,000 rpm. Take off from dead stops are very sluggage till over 3,ooo rpm.
Runs good other then that. Gas mileage seems around town to be 114 miles till reserve kick in. Which does not seem that great.
I have no idea from previous owner, what jets are in it.
I'm more concerned of the noise that developed at the same time the charging system failed.
Looking for some initial things to look at, that I may have missed, before shop checks it out.
I have down loaded the manual and been looking thru it, that's what lead to me checking alternator, which is not putting out anything.
Thanks,
Ryan

A good carb cleaning should help. Is the air filter dirty? It says in the shop manual how to check/test the charging system. I pretty sure most motorcycles dont have alternators, especially old Honda CBR's. Maybe the battery is shot. Motorcycle charging system arent really meant to charge a dead battery. Test your battery and make sure its good. As far as the noise, dont know, need more description.
Hi coal miner frank.
Yes I cleaned the air filter and checked it out. The battery failed, actually 2 of them. That's how I knew something was wrong. I replaced rectifier, wires to it, we're burnt. I replaced ends and some wire and connectors.
Good news on another issue. I adjusted the idle lower a little bit ago and that made a much better difference. Odd tho, as I turned it like lower 1 1/2 turns to go from 1.500 rpm to 1.200 rpm and huge difference. Runs better.

Hey Ryan, Did you get to buy the new alternator? I have been looking for one for months without any luck. I had same issues and replaced same things as you on my 1993 honda cbr 1000f. Sigh...Please share. Trust you got yours fixed.
