This bike's a 1996. I took it for its maiden ride this evening, a 42.5 mile jaunt into the city of Longmont, to get a couple of fish tacos.

It was bloody cold - about 26 degrees f.

This motorcycle is a wonder - very responsive, very predictable, very balanced, and very sure-footed.

It was wayyyyy more than I was hoping for.

Great to hear FOG,

Just remember take your time with your new bike, get to know all her traits and enjoy her (and your reborn) abilities.

And as for being TOO nice, give us time - we can diss with the best of them That is an evidence based statement - stick your head in the Hurricane Saloon for enlightenment!

Cheers, SB

Welcome to the forum! For those of us who are young whipper snappers or just plain too foreign, what year is a first term Clinton era bike? :P

Plus, I'm being hideously nosey; but what's with the 'Geologist' handle? I studied a BSc (Hons) and an MSc in geographical subjects. Do you like rocks too or am I being too hopeful?
I am a Master's student (M.A., Geology, '13: Education) at University of Northern Colorado. I am graduating this semester and am student teaching Earth Sciences and Biology at a high school close by.

MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE HIGH 5!

I'm a BSc (Hons) Geography with Conservation, MSc Climate and Environmental Change! I also dig rocks

Show me some impressive bedding planes and you'll be (Mg,Fe)7Si8O22(OH)2

I've visited the Pike's Peak/Garden of the Gods area of Colorado. Some beautiful geography around your neck of the woods. I am jealous of your subject specific job though. I was going to become a Geographic Specialist Officer in the army, but the legislation changed at the last minute and I became 'too old' to join that specific corps (I'm only 26!). Still, being a butcher/fishmonger is an interesting job and not too bad for the current economic climate.

Well done and ride safe!

LOL, Cummingtonite - a product of the volcanism of the joining of Laurasia and Laurentia into Pangea!

So, BP, you're "too old" at 26 to do something other than Special Forces or flight training in the military? Bizarre. I guess Her Majesty's Royal Army must have plenty of younger applicants, eh? Shame, that!

I could still have joined as a sapper/private, but I wanted officer. They're cutting down massively on the size of our armed forces. Ah well, I'm on the management training pathway at work now and will soon be on more money than if I'd have joined. Better job security too. Just a lot less maps involved in this job

Oh well. At least I get to go to the mountains on motorbikes and hike about with maps to my heart's content on my time off.

How is the weather over there? We are about to have a really snowy blast that'll rival the snows of 1993 over here (possibly). I did say that it was bound to snow a lot this winter as it's my first winter on a bike - sod's law that is!

I went to Aviation Officer Candidate's School (USN) when I was 25. Took about 5 years off my knees from all the running. Both our nation's military services are just about knackered from all the battles our leaders have gotten them into, and the public's really eager to stop spending blood and treasure "liberating" the various and sundry people from the middle-east. I don't think a military career will be that promising in the near future; you're probably better off in private industry for the next decade. In any case, I wish you luck and safe biking.

The weather is BRUTAL - the high will be 16 degrees F today, it was -14 degrees C this morning (like 6 degrees F). Snow all over the deck - but not too slick.

Got some heated grips, shorty clutch and brake levers, and some panniers and a Bulldog stand on the way. WOOT!
