Does anyone's neck hurt as much as mine??
Hey everyone, I'm glad I can finally and proudly sayI have a CBR600RR. I've always wanted a sport bike but started with an old cruiser to break into the bike game. Been riding for 3 years and got used to the sit-back and relax comfort. However, now that I just got my CBR, I get pretty bad neck pain from just short rides. has this ever happened to anyone other than me? Do I just need to get used to the new position of a sportbike? It has me a little concerned since I never expected that to happen. All comments are welcome, but take it easy on me, I'm a newbie..... )

On cruisers, your in the relaxed position, and your head is lined up vertically with your spine, and level with the ground. Much like sitting in a chair.
On sport bikes, your in the forward-slant position, and your head needs to be tilted back a bit to keep it level with the ground. So your spine is slanted forward, but your head is level with the ground. This is putting a little strain on your neck muscles because you haven't had to ride like this before. Give it a couple weeks and the soreness should go away once your neck muscles get used to it. Stretching your neck muscles before riding also helps relieve the soreness.
Not to counter-argue TheX, but sitting further back on the seat will make you tilt your head more to keep it level with the ground, thus putting more stress on your neck muscles. If you're up against the tank, you are in the most upright position possible on these bikes, which will cause less neck pain.

If the pain is in the traps and and lower neck, my guess the neck situation on you isn't gonna get better by just moving around on the seat, you are going to have to get some flexibility into it. Try stretches and a massage. I hurt my shoulder at the gym, and I am having the same problem, but it isn't pain, it just feels sore.

I'm frequently sore as well. I had a bad habbit of riding real tense at first which made it worse. Now its the freeway riding that is hard. I rode about 30 mins on the highway at 80mph twice on Sunday and it was hard to be comfortable at all. Acoworker road to deals gap last year from here (Michigan) on his R6 last year. I have a newfound respect for him.

I rode to Laconia six weeks ago for the weekend. Did 550 mostly dreadful miles in some ridiculous traffic. My neck still isn't the same. It starts hurting just sitting here at the computer. After about 45 minutes on the bike I've had enough -- it's been a little discouraging.
