If you can let us know what multimeter you ended up getting, it will help in describing where the dial should be set for making a particular check. Also, did it come with any alligator clips that allow you to clip the meter lead onto a wire or connector terminal?

ok and from what im seeing, it appears to not have included any alligator clips. I'll swing by somewhere to pick some up when I'm on the way to the bike. But I have attached a picture of the multimeter below.

only kind that they had at Walmart. No Flukes or similar brands
I am now at the house with the motorcycle
