Who likes guns?

See, that would be weird for me. I carry every day.
I mean, what do you do when you need to open a can of beer? Or how do you shut off a lamp when you don't feel like getting up to turn it off?
My dad made a trip to China last year, and when he returned he said that the first night at dinner, all the guys over there wanted to talk to him about guns. My dad said that first they wanted to know if he had guns. Once he said "yes", they wanted to know how many people he had killed!
He got quite a kick out oof this. He kept trying to explain to them that he doesn't kill people with them, but they just kept saying "Well then why do you have them??"
I know this story doesn't exactly apply to the UK, etc... but it does show how different many countries view the whole gun thing...

Good question Rod
Good question Rod. The difference between where you live and here in the USA, is our constitution has the second ammendment that provides the difference between our country and all others. It is our right to bear arms so that the government can not ever grow so bold as to totally control us. You gave up the only method of keeping the government from totally controlling you when you gave up your guns. Our founding fathers knew that England had that problem and made the US Constitution give every person the right to keep not only the government at arm's length, but also criminals at arm's length. Choice is what it comes down to since one has the choice to protect one's self here in the USA.
Yes, the old, young and weak must rely on the police for protection, but really, how many times has a cop been there at the exact moment you need them to stop the thug? Too late!!! Thug 1, victim 0.... By having a gun, you have a chance at least.... Without a gun, Thug 1, victim 0... Thugs have guns or big muscles so little old ladies will lose most of the time anyway, but I am not a little old lady and do not rely on the police to be my protectors. The police are here as tax collector enforcement!
So Rod it is a matter of choice and belief. I spent 10 years in the military some of which was at war in Viet Nam. I fought for my country's belief and part of that belief is the Constitution under which this country was founded. I was willing to die for the right to bear arms. I am still willing to die to keep that right and if it were to mean turning against a controlling government who turns on its people, then I will follow through with making some of the government "THUGS" die earning a buck.
Rod, you gave up your last means of stopping agression against you when you and your countrymen gave up their weapons. Your government now can walk in and take whatever they want with no means for resistance to form against them. That means a rich man can now get your politican to do the dirty work and take over all of you little people. Robin Hood is famous for challenging the local government and without weapons, he would not have stood a chance....
I like to think of my choice to protect myself through bearing arms as my final act of freedom. Also, the Japanese did not attack any further than Hawaii because it would be suicide to attack a country where every citizen has a gun aimed at your troops! Viet Nam taught the big old US government a lesson on weapons and the willingness to die for a cause - taught the French the same lesson before the US government....
Tell me Rod, now that your citizens no longer have guns, did your cops give them up too??? NO, I think not.... Cops 1, citizens 0.... Final act of freedom = gone....
Maybe Bill Gates can now own his own country... He can now buy your imprisonment without resistance.... Guns give the little guy a chance in life over those with money, power and bigger muscles...
Here is a thought Rod. If you were out in the country (as a robber) and there was a farm house that you thought you could rob. Would you think the old farmer just might have a gun to stop you? Now if you knew, he had no guns would you care about the possible final act of self perservation by the farmer? See? Guns make even the boldest thug think about going into the city instead of the farm country. Why? Because cities have gun laws that restrict people's access to guns! Since cities require a "concealed weapons permit", that says to thugs "no visible gun = NO defense." Thugs can use a knife to get you, but if you produce a gun in his face Thug 0, victim 1....
P.S. As it is said, "God created man and Smith & Wesson made man equal." Big muscles? Bigger caliber gun!

Ok thanks for the US history lesson. I think i missed the mark there, we still have the right to own weapons and also the right to protect ourselves from aggression. We also have a political system that controls the government and stops exploitation. We just don't allow the general public to own military style weapons and it is illegal to carry a concealed weapon.
So why is there a need to own military style weapons, is it because you fear your government that much that you feel the need to protect yourself from them? or? and what's so threatening at work or in a restaurant that requires 9mm of protection?

Be nice and stay on topic
Ok . om gunna get into this before anyone gets shot ..lol
Hey Joe , Dylan...and anyone else and now me mate Rod from Aus, that feels the need or has the urge to turn this thread into a gun debate... forget it !!!
PLEASE remember that this is a thread about peeps that like guns, NOT whether they are right , wrong , necessary or unnecessary..
The great gun debate has been done to death on the CBRF a few times already
So to Rod , can I say mate , that I know and understand where you are coming from and I tend to agree with you , BUT , our thoughts on whole the matter, do not necessarily apply or make sense in other countries...and we certainly should not pass judgment nor criticize other countries use of guns or laws on this matter... so please lets not turn this into a debate... ok
Trust me ...I have been down this road big time in here and it is a dead end Rod
and ...
Joe and Dylan ect... please understand that we Aussies do live in a place where this whole issue does not make sense to us on the whole... so please try to understand as well and stay nice and calm too
Now anyone that can not see reason in my request to keep this on topic and calm is gunna get the hose turned on them by my trained assistant..
She is watchin yu's so be nice ... or get wet... lol

Rod asked the question
OK Steve. Debate done. Rod asked the question and I can see that no matter what I say, I will be wrong in his eyes. Rod my friend, live as you wish. I will do the same. Good luck in life.
Passion makes the world a better place, even if that passion is extreme..
P.S. To answer Rod's last question. To kill more people at once Rod why else? (being sarcastic) Even playing field.

Hey Steve = tell your assistant if she shoots me with her gun, I'll shoot her with mind.........
I know who'll have more fun.............Besides a trouser snake is far more deadly than anything she can find I'm sure.
Steve's right guys - let's keep it on who likes them, and stay away from the morality issues please. Its a sensitive issue - if you really want to go and have a look in the history of this forum, and you will see how sensitive it is.
The other option is to go to PM's and have a ball !
