Its amazing just how many different jobs we all have but still have one thing in common, our bikes
The nurses over here get a really rough deal, they deserve better. Yes you get the crap ones just like every job. The good ones, its more of a vocation and they do it because they want too. Too many hours for not enough pay
What sort of nurse are you Jules?

You guys messing with radiation you wouldn't see me for dust!!
I've worked with some nasty chemicals but at least you can see or smell them.

I went from Global Training Management (I/O Development) at an IT/technical support firm to --- getting laid off.

Months of unemployment - no fun. I rather work, (almost) no matter the pay. Hence, now i work an entry level job at a mapping company (think gps), got my real estate license (no sales yet ) and work as COO for an online startup.
However, i'm not complaining as every door that closes, pushes another open. The tough times are not fun, we've all certainly had them, but, let's see what's behind the next corner.

Hey FargAT , as we say here

'As one door closes , another one slams in your face!'
and
'what don't kill you , just makes you stronger'

When times are hard , sometimes it's better just to tread water , go with the flow , the good times come round again

I am RGN qualified staff nurse and worked in a city hospital, a spell in casualty, (A&E) ... also a ward sister. I also did 18 months in St John's Hospice caring for the terminally ill. That was heartbreaking at times and I burned out.

A proper "angel" then
I could see why a hospice would do you in,not a nice place to visit let alone work, I take my hat off to you.

I think a nurse beats a firefighter for the best job

They look better in uniform

Thank you, the thing that tipped me over the edge was a wonderful 35 year old man, every day his wife and children came to visit him ... he was so accepting and so gracious of everything, one day it was raining heavily outside and I stupidly and without thinking said "damn, I am so fed up with the rain" ..he told me "oh no, it's beautiful" and, that he wished he could see the rain everyday ... as he deteriorated he told me tonight I see my children for the last time ... he said he was going to say goodbye to them because he wanted them to remember him as he was and not what was going to happen to him, I was in complete bits over all this ... that day will haunt me forever, his wife brought them in for the last time ... watching him kiss them goodbye, knowing that was it for the family, he only allowed me and his wife to stay to the end .......

After 18 months I simply could not do it anymore .. I went back to work on hospital wards.....

Definitely an angel
A sad story but all too common, I have been through something similar but as the "family"
I think I will stick to mending bent buses and riding my CBR

Yer killin' me jules!
It's a tough job, no doubt... but hospice can (and does) make a big difference. I've seen it. There are some really great nurses out there, and the good ones make all the difference in the world.
Sounds like you're a great one.
