Default Should I buy this project?

Hi guys, first off I'm out of my territory as I'm an old skool cbr 600f rider but what the heck...

I like the 1000 bikes and came across this project on ebay. What do you think, should I go for it or stay away?

Any advice from you guys will be really appreciated.

Thanks
Roger - Sheffield, UK

Hi Roger.

I'm assuming you have basic mechanical skills (oil change, basic service).

To actually get it up and running it shouldn't take too much, I wouldn't worry too much about oil leaks and the guys on here will be able to talk you through anything more complicated.

At the end of the day, it's worth way more in parts than the bid right now, so it's a winner in my eyes.

C'mon dodger………. let uncle Woof and the rest of us know……… Did'ja???

I'm afraid I"m a bit late jumping this thread as the auction has ended but boy, what a price. This was a bargain for anyone who knows how to put one of these bikes together. As Hawk said, the sum of the parts alone is worth several times what this sold for.

Reading between the lines, I suspect that the PO was either not very handy with the tools or lacked a little knowledge about how to carry out the repair. He also doesn't say what the symptoms were that caused him to drop the engine. If he was trying to replace the starter clutch, why drop the engine? Something not quite right.
Plastics sound pretty battered.

SO if you were going to rebuild this bike and make it lets say, a bike that makes you proud to own, how many hours do you thing you'd need to spend on it? THink about it, we all know how much time it takes to sort out tiny problems sometimes. This is a rebuild.
If you valued your time at a conservative £$¥₨25 per hour, what would be the true cost of turning a bike like this into a proper mistress?

Engine- 3 days
Body work- 2 days
Brakes/chain sprockets- 1 day
General cleaning/ checking/ lubricating etc- 0.5 day
Tappets/carb synch/plugs/air filter/oil change- 0.5 day
Cleaning/polishing- 3 hours

So 7.5 days work @ £$¥₨25 per hour, that's £$¥₨1500.00 + 320= £$¥₨1820.00

Anyone got 7.5 days to spare? I'll buy them off you!

Red face did I buy it?

Hey guys

I'm ashamed to say I let you down this time

That doesn't mean I won't get one when the right project comes up. That project seemed like a lot of confusion; with different engines each with its own issues. So ok I probably chickened out of the deal of the year. Right when I could've been bidding on it I was uninstalling my washing machine cuz it packed in and you know you have to do what the mrs wants lol. I got my 600FL '90 on the road last easter and I'm really missing working on a bike.

Thanks for all your advice and encouragement.

Ride safe

Rog
