Matti, it's lead you need for the GPS thing. My old company car had a GPS unit that could tell all the powers that be all sorts of stuff like how long the car is parked for, where it's parked, speed, if your *** was on the seat or off it, when it's locked or not, you name it it could do it. My mate who remains nameless owns a nameless company (cyber car audio and electronics) .. told me he could solve my problem. He gave me a lead sheet about 200mmx150mm and 2ish mm thick. Showed me the magic bos tucked under the speaker in the foot well and told me to fold and over lap the lead around it and just sit it there and take it off at warrant of fitness and servicing times.
Worked a treat.

Now TK, that rain water, tell you a story about rain tanks vs bore water systems.
That yummy rich mineral taste you get off the rain water is mostly.... Bird ****. Yep rain water is collected from iron or tin roofs, mostly always only in rural areas where of course there are loads more birds, bird ***** on roof, rain washes it into your tank, next minute... Pooing milk shakes haha. Would rather earthy bore water any day I'm thinking how was this fellow was collecting his sample of rain water. Off an aluminium sheet /cone of some kind?

KB I got it covered. Sort of. If you read my triumph resurrection diary you might have seen how, traded the Volvo for an Alfa 916 Spider. If there's a gps tracker... it ain't in the roof

Lucky I don't have to worry about water contamination. Would I drink from the gutter downspout, hell no! All kinds of goo, poo and dead critters in the gutters! Would I drink straight rain, sure! Even our biggest cities are mere towns in your scale so the pollution is very minimal here, most of the little forest creecks are pure enough to drink straight up, there are water purification filters for sale that you can screw onto a bottle neck but they mostly gather dust in the shelf cause only the outdoorsy people buy them cause our tap water is -IIRC- the purest in the whole world. I get cleaner better tasting water from the faucet than you guys buy in them fancy bottles and pay yourself silly. Ask any Finn that has moved out of here what they miss, I bet my left nut the answer is Sauna,Salmiakki,Black rye bread and the taste of water.

Now where did this soap box appear under my feet... better step down now...

Editorial: 'Black boxes' are in 96% of new cars
here in the US they are mandating the use of them.

I knew that rental cars use the black box to record max speed.

There's also this LINK
Tracking fuel efficient cars to get road tax is the original intent but, I figure that if you go over the speed limit, your gonna get a yellow piece of paper in the mail and the evidence is gonna be there.

Wow, what a can of worms I mistakenly opened.

Couple of thoughts; the on-board data loggers don't rely on any GPS input.

As they are built into the ECU, no amount of tinfoil or thin lead is going to stop them doing their job. The only next step required is wifi connectivity (they probably already have it) and longer data recording time (how much has the cost of data storage fallen in the last few years? how many times have I been given a 32 gb flash drive with a set of building plans on? Lots, I can assure you.) As the cost of data storage goes down, the recording times will increase.

We are only just starting to get Automatic Plate Recognition here in NZ.

Apparently it's being "trialled" to help detection of stolen cars. But, it's obviously not to much of a leap to see it being used to pick up unregistered or unwarranted vehicles on the fly.

At least with a bike our chances of detection are reduced by 50% by having no front plate. (How long till that changes?)

Its called OnStar. There's a surveillance section in this LINK.

Here's what the ALPR can do.

In this clip he gets a hit at 2:19. Notice the angle and location of the SUV that gets read.

My thoughts are, why do they have to be mounted on a police car? I bet you'll be seeing (or not seeing them mounted in hidden places) in every intersection. That way they can track your every move. They will be able to tell if you exceeded the speed limit based on distances between known distances from intersection to intersection. They can justify the expense of such readers with the massive amounts of revenue from fines.
