Saw an interesting thing on online TV tonight
Was catching up on a local program called Serious Crash Unit.
(No point posting the link, because I'm sure it won't be available outside NZ)
But anyway, it raised an interesting point that I was not aware of.
It would seem that modern car airbags run a continual "Black Box" kind of data logger that continually records and overwrites 5 seconds before and after deployment of airbags.
I wasn't aware of this.
Is it common knowledge that everyone has just forgotten to tell me about?
The killer evidence tonight was the clown entering a 55 km/hr posted corner at 161 km/hr.
Never gonna work.

Hmph. I've owned two '99 Volvo S80:s. There is a cover plate in the center of the ceiling trim. Just out of curiosity I once removed it to see what's behind it. What peaked my interest was not what I found from behind, rather from the other side. There is an electronic box with a bunch of wires, closer examination revealed to be a GPS tracker. Now the interesting part: NEITHER of the cars had satnav OR lojack or anything that would have needed it, there is NO mentioning of it anywhere, I read the owners manual from cover to cover, nothing. The question is WHY there isn't just a blank cover plate in the hole or not a hole in the first place, that device MUST be expensive so it is there for a reason!

V.funny Mattie. I have had cause to write a letter to the editor of our local newspaper just within the last couple of hours suggesting the same thing about another correspondent.
This guy was claiming that he has some rainwater samples that prove very high levels of aluminum in our local rainwater. He suspected this was from American military planes flying overhead and seeding our skies with chemical laden contrails.
Whatever.
I think that maybe some of his rainwater samples were contaminated with water dripping off the brim of his pointy tinfoil hat.
But another thought. If we have now unwittlying accepted automatic recording of our driving behavior. Is it really such such a big leap of faith that we can't conceive of getting auto generated speeding tickets in the mail?
Great little earner for the government, no cops required. Just interrogate all the black boxes on a daily basis and post out offence notices to everyone that went over 100 km/hr.
Now I'm starting to sound like one of those guys with the tinfoil hats.
