Haha yeah that would be great to find one of those on a deserted road with a buddy and a camera. Take turns doing runs to see who could get 99mph haha

Ok, so the police in NZ have decided that speed cameras are such a great way of raising revenue (sorry that should say reducing the road toll) they have actually contracted out some roads to private operators. That means that any guy with a white van can score a contract for a particular section of road, sit there all day and read porno mags and pick his nose while the camera flashes away reducing the road toll. I don't know if they get paid an hourly rate or if they get paid on tickets.

Reported in NZ Classic Car magazine : a couple of teenage guys realize that "white van man" that lives next door is one of the above contractors. In a fit of what can only be called pure inspiration they make a replica of his rego plate.

Next time he heads out they tape the replica plate over their own and follow him at a discreet distance. Spend the entire day speeding up just as come up to the van to set the camera off. Apparently caused much consternation in Traffic Safety Central.

Although now that I think about it I could indeed see Steve doing something like that.
