yes north of strasbourg, but strasbourg is france. i life nearly by ramstein, 10km from me to the us airbase.

hi all cbr paul here
just found the forum
have a cbr1000fl since about 94 bought with about 9000 mi
live in belgium
bike bought in uk and still with uk plates
done about 52000mi
a few facts
basically a good bike but despite it being a honda things go wrong more often than one would like ( in comparison i have a honda s2000 and that is faultless)

what goes wrong
1 front wheel bearings need to be replaced at about 30 k

2 bike is extremely sensitive to tyre pressure and having new v shaped tyres or it wont corner, it came with pirelli mt o2 which would only ride full upright
now have bt on and i can corner ok
front tyres will wear out 2x as fast as rear

3 brake calipers seize up if you ride in the wet and you have to dissasseble and clean out the salts in the o ring grooves to free it up

4 steering head bearing are fom a bicycle , better fit taper rollers
standard ones pit in no time

5 front forks are mushy, fit with heavy oil to stop pogoing

6 shock rebound damper adjustment never worked ( siezed from new i guess )
7 regulator will fail at 40 k, replaced by second hand part
tell tale boiled out dry battery is the sign

8 standard battery is weak , use a gel one

9 if your battery cracks as mine did it will **** acid all over the swing arm
the battery box is watertight but the drain spigot has no drain tube fitted
lesson learned !

10 engine is almost wear proof for the main components and should last longer than you will if run on good oil

what will go wrong in the engine:
damper coupling ( piece of s--t which is in the middle of the engine and requires a engine split to get it out)
sign is the starter turns with whirring noise and the engine doesnt
that it actually serves no function is what amazes me!

spark plug can unscrew if not really tight

spark plug leads will fail

cam chain tensioner will fail several times( 3 to be exact )

alternator chain tensioner will fail ( once )

silencer headers will rot out ( replaced by stainless )

silencers will rot out( to be replaced by stainless too )

fairing will get cracks in different mounting points some can be epoxied shut

final chain will last well if greased regularly and not hammered too hard

standard windshield too low and replaced by higher one

tank cap seal will fail and need to be replaced

and last but not least the fuel tank front mount is a cantilever and will cause the tank to crack at the mounting and cause a small leak
had a gassy smell in the garage for years but couldnt trace it
now found the leak and epoxied the whole inside of the tank ( saved 750 eur )

handling is heavy as lower speeds
turning circle bigger than my mondeo
braking ok if you have the best pads and the calipers are in top form
in summer your calves wil cook from the radiator heat

not a bike you can lift alone ( i had to twice with help ) as it weighs 250 kg gassed up and with minor luggage

best bits are
engine apart from the faults above
electrics that never go wrong
steady in a straight line
reasonably comfortable for even a tall guy like me
spares are cheaper as good second hand supply
