Hi all, well its been a long few months recovering but I am on the mend. Thank gawd I still have my VFR to get out on but my thoughts are turning to what to do with the bigun. I have got a pile of parts from eBay but am short of some critical stuff. Top fairing, screen, headlight all smashed to tiny bits. Also when i start her up there's is a coolant leak but i don't know where from yet :-/

have'nt sayI have used one of those top fairings Fenner. Good to hear you are
recovering in a timely fashion. My 2 cents on the leak, probably the coolant T joint
under the ride side fairing.

 

The nose fairings can be pretty hard to find, £164 including postage is a bitter pill to swallow though.

New screens are available from Power Bronze and I'll keep an eye on e-bay for a headlight for you. You located in the UK?

If I'm not mistaken the headlight unit is the same from '89 on, so that should simplify your search, same part numbers should mean same part

 

Without having seen one close up, they look pretty nice though. Pretty tempting to go that route vs. waiting for a used on on ebay that might be scuffed up..

The headlights are slightly different between the three generations, unfortunately. Even though the MK 2 and MK 3 look similar, they're not the same, but both do show up on ebay regularly.

Thanks a lot Hawkwind, despite looking I hadn't spotted that 😃 bid placed. The trouble with the fairing is it comes in 5 parts which all cost a fortune or aren't available new anymore anyway. I could get by for now with a left side and the bit that goes between headlight and screen. The leak does seem to be a joint on the right so we'll see when the fairings come off.....

Fairing parts can be hard to come by, but I'll keep an eye out for you.

If you have enough of the broken bits, you might be able to cobble something together, just to get you on the road again. When my screen was smashed by a wood pigeon I used gaffer tape until I could afford a new screen.

 

I'm a dab hand with a bit of gaffer bodgery 😄 a few years despatching in London taught me that but there's literally nothing left of the fairing or screen it's like they vaporised! Think the remains got binned while I was being carted away to hosi.

 

Well it's been six and a half months since i got trashed and things are moving on. Bit by bit I have acquired a pile of parts mostly through good old eBay of course. Most recently I have ordered the one piece pattern top cowl from Poland, should be with me in about three weeks. That done I am close to being able to make the old girl rideable :-)

I still need a left silencer and a screen. Beyond that i want new crash protectors and left crash bar cover.
