Dynoed the Hurricane with video.
The shop that did my cane kinda shrugs when you say KN. They seem to prefer the factory paper Honda filter. A KN typically will lean out the factory set carbs.
Does a KN really give more grunt with a factory stock set up. Only a dyno test could tell. No doubt with proper tunning/jetting a KN filter is the way to go.
I have tried the Seafoam in my cane with no change. I ran it for about 1000 miles. Looks like its time to go through carbs.

The thing is, these bikes generally run a little fat so it's usually not a big issue. However, you go adding a high flow exhaust or your carbs aren't delivering fuel like they should be and you'll have a problem.
Many people just go ahead with the K&N because the cost difference from stock paper is negligible (and sometimes stock is hard to find). They figure why not get a reusable filter that's available for the same price? It makes sense.
But you can get emgo stock replacements for this bike for $12 from bike bandit.
Yep, I had mine re-jetted (not enough to have to put on or need headers though). Just enough to improve thrust, make is use a tad more gas and stop it from boiling the gas and pissing it out the overflow hose/s. Then, a few years back, I also put a K&N (the re-usable oiled one) and it runs great. I've had no issues with it anyhow.
It is recommended to let the filter sit a bit before riding so all the oil gets soaked in and then to wipe off any access.
FWIW, I had mine re-jetted about two weeks after I bought it. It kept boiling the gas and no one at the dealership could figure out why. I mean I'd ride for an hour or two, basically if the bike heated up, and then I'd shut ut down to go get a pop or something, come back, start it up and leave it would literally **** out gas from the overflow hoses. I was able to figure it out though. lol
I removed those rubber flaps that are behind the two slots on each side (the slots where you can adjust the idle through one of them) and had them re-jet it and it never happened again. It allowed the air to flow through a little more and a little better then with them in. FWIW, I still have the ribber flaps.
