Gosh, those 500 GP bikes were nasty old things back in the day weren't they?

Yep, the sound of a banshee 2 stroke GP bike is totally unforgettable, but I remember back in the mid 70's being at the street circuits in NZ; the ear melting noise of the two strokes; and then Croz with the chest crushing noise of his 900.
Absolutey feckin awesome.

That was awesome, don't think I've ever seen that before.
"Back in the day" I saw Randy Mamola, Marco Luchenelli, Hansford and a whole lot of the then current top GP riders do the Wanganui Cemetery Circuit.
It has its 60th coming up if not this year, maybe next year. If you're looking for an excellent excuse to come to NZ, do a big ride and catch some excellent Street Racing there is probably no better time to come to NZ.

The guy is a legend, would lead for two or three laps until the GP 2 strokes would get ahead of him, then he would lose interest and just to start to pull the most amazing wheelies you have ever seen.
At Wanganui there is a very high speed chicane that crosses a railway line as well.
Wheelie, no probs for Croz, once he got into the "having fun" mode the guy was just an absolute joy to watch.

Awesome vid's! I used to follow Gardner years ago, used to be a huge fan. The Wanganui, cemetery circuit is awesome, still does it thing every year. Typically me or mates go.
Two smokers, crikey they were the best on the track, my fav was the Yam RZ500. Part of the reason I started road biking with two smokers (DS7, RD's, RZ's and a TZR) I loved the power and that sweet smell, but not the constant rebuilds lol. The RZ's were awesome for wheelies.

One of the most amazing saves of all time IMO
Eddie Lawson's another one that jumps right into memory "Steady Eddie"
Caused a ruckus when he jumped from Yamaha to Honda to work with
Kanemoto bringing in the 89 championship having won it with Yamaha the
year before.
Good stuff looking back
