Very similar to how I did mine. I ran it straight off the battery, though (fused.... always!) and mounted mine to the other side.

+1 I ran it straight to the battery (fused) with a 15 amp.

It serves as a power outlet and a power inlet (charging) port !

Same side as Trout ...... works great.

Mini USB insert plug for GPS, phone equipment etc.

My version of same

hey everyone just did my 12v outlet today. went the same route Bordo did straight to the battery and added a switch although im not really pleased with my switch placement it was the only place i could stick a drill to make a hole. also added a lil clock that i picked up from autozone to go on the outlet cover here are some pics

That's kind of a neat idea. I had a chance to use mine to power my GPS on my last big trip and it worked perfectly.
