Default How to copy a Vario screen

Hi, I fancied an MRA Vario screen for touring this summer but they cost about £100 in the uk. If you don't know what one is i've put a picture below. They supposedly make high speed touring a lot comfier by flicking some of the air over your head without causing the buffeting associated with the usual flip screens.

To avoid the cost involed with buying the MRA screen i had a friend make me a couple of billet trapeziums and drill/tap them for me to take 6mm bolts. I bought stainless steel allen bolts and washers and myself and my mate Gra drilled the original screen, made a new blade out of an old screen i got for nothing off a local bike mechanic by cutting and bending it to shape, and fitted it to my original screen at the angle i wanted. If anyone wants any more details then let me know.

It seemed to work perfect on the motorway on the way home, even deflecting most of the rain over my head

Great idea.
I have a similar screen to Sprock, with a 3" extra lift, which makes a bg difference.

Hi guys,
The screens you're on about that have a 3" rise are what we call flip screens which are similar to the original but with a longer flipped up top. They deflect the wind higher but seem to cause buffeting of the head for some people depending on the riders height i think. They may be ok for you

The MRA vario i've copied is suppose to avoid the possibly downfalls of flip or double bubble screens by only deflecting some of the wind blast and letting some still come through the gap. I've not tested a flip back to back with a vario so i can't vouch for the theory myself but i have to say that the home made vario seems to be great so far and inexpensive, lol.

Thanks for the good comments by the way, i'll open up the fabrication shop soon, lol.

P.S. I've tidied up the thread by putting the best pics on the lead thread and deleting the rest.

Eyup Gaz, great mod and imagine if you could motorise it for different rider heights!
