Different approach to Sat Nav and 12v outlet mounting
I wired the outlet directly to the battery, through an inline fuse. I did it this way because I may want to use the outlet without the bike ignition on.
Don't forget that many of the GPS's like the Garmin are designed to charge through a USB port which is at, what, 3.7 volts.(?) If you run wires straight from your GPS to the battery at 12 volts you'll cook it in a heartbeat. There are special charging units designed to go direct from 12 V and drop the voltage down to the correct level - check with your GPS manufacturer. My old Garmin runs through a cigarette lighter but runs at 9v on the battery so I'm sure there's a resistor in the plug somewhere.

Vibration usually is not an issue for them man, I find having the GPS under the window
in my tank bag works well for me !
Some Garmins go into "data mode" though when you try charging through straight
usb cables just some models I have one that does that and one that does not !
