Hello

I wired the outlet directly to the battery, through an inline fuse. I did it this way because I may want to use the outlet without the bike ignition on.

With it wired straight to the battery, you can charge your battery. Plug up charger into the plug and you can charge your battery over the winter.

Don't forget that many of the GPS's like the Garmin are designed to charge through a USB port which is at, what, 3.7 volts.(?) If you run wires straight from your GPS to the battery at 12 volts you'll cook it in a heartbeat. There are special charging units designed to go direct from 12 V and drop the voltage down to the correct level - check with your GPS manufacturer. My old Garmin runs through a cigarette lighter but runs at 9v on the battery so I'm sure there's a resistor in the plug somewhere.

Don't worry, the outlet is wired the same as a car one, so any car unit will work. The 12v plug on the Tomtom reduces the voltage to 5v just like in a car, as does my 12v/USB converter.

How does the Tomtom handle the vibration or isn't it an issue?!!

Vibration usually is not an issue for them man, I find having the GPS under the window
in my tank bag works well for me !

Some Garmins go into "data mode" though when you try charging through straight
usb cables just some models I have one that does that and one that does not !
