900CBR Fireblade
I have acquired a 1997 900CBR Fireblade.Engine stalls when I select gear.Clutch is not totally stuck as I can,with the engine off,select gear,pull in the clutch and push the bike,no problem,but with the engine running stalls instantly I select gear?
Check the clutch neutral light works and also the kickstand switch. The bike won't run if it thinks it's in gear with the kickstand down, and won't start if it thinks the kickstand is up and it's in gear unless the clutch is pulled.
Measure resistance to chassis-ground of all safety interloc switches in both positions:
- clutch switch
- neutral switch
- kickstand switch
Best to measure at ignition module so you test all wiring in between as well. In like 99% of time, all switches are fine and issue is wiring or mis-alignment of switches.

For example, can you take look at this harness bought off eBay and tell me why bike won't start?

Kid was practically in tears when bringing bike in. He had replaced everything:
- ignition-switch
- kill-switch
- clutch switch
- neutral switch
- kickstand switch
- start-button
- starter solenoid
- tip-over sensor
- all fuses
- all relays
- ignition coils
- spark plugs
- injectors
- fuel-pump
- FPR
- fuel-filter
- engine-harness & coil/injector subharness, last ditch effort, still no start
I just pulled out meter, followed troubleshooting flowchart in manual, did 6-7 measurements and within 5-minutes found blk/wht power wire just before coil-subharness was broken and didn't supply any power to coils. Simple. Not single part was bad!!!
